# Rental & Mobility

> Blueprint for car, bike, scooter, camper, and equipment rentals.

### Who It’s For

Bike rental shops, scooter fleets, camper vans, car rentals, boat rentals, sports equipment, tool hire, and any business renting out physical assets.

***

### Key Challenges & Needs

* Preventing double bookings across identical units (bikes, scooters, kayaks, tools).
* Tracking availability for multi-day and overnight rentals.
* Managing add-ons such as helmets, lock kits, or accessories.
* Taking payments online or in person.
* Collecting required customer details (e.g., license info).
* Ensuring calendars stay clean and accurate as units go out and come back.

***

### Recommended Oskar Setup

#### 1. Inventory your fleet

Add all vehicles or equipment as **resources** in\
**[Resources](/documentation/core-modules/resources)**.

For identical items (e.g., “Bike 1–10” or “Kayak #1–#12”), use\
**[Sub-Resources](/documentation/faq/sub-resources)** (tracked units).\
Oskar will automatically assign one specific unit to each booking and prevent double-booking.

#### 2. Define rental services

In **[Services](/documentation/core-modules/services)**, create the rental options you offer, such as:

* “Bike – 1 Hour Rental”
* “E-Scooter – Day Pass”
* “Kayak – Half Day”
* “Camper Van – Nightly Rental”

Set duration, pricing, and assign the relevant fleet resources.\
Link accessories (e.g., helmet, paddle, lock) as **extras** so clients can add them during checkout.

#### 3. Support overnight and multi-day rentals

For campers, boats, or long rentals, set duration to **Nights**:

* Go to **MANAGE → Services → \[Service] → Booking Duration**
* Choose **Nights**

Oskar automatically blocks all nights until departure day, allowing back-to-back stays without overlap.

#### 4. Collect required customer details

Use **[Intake Forms](/guides/smart-tips-and-growth/intake-forms)** or custom fields in\
**Settings → Custom Fields** to collect:

* Driver license number
* Upload of ID (if needed)
* Height/size (for bikes)
* Pickup instructions or notes

The answers are saved in the client’s profile in\
**[Customers](/documentation/core-modules/customers)**.

#### 5. Set up payments

In **[Payments](/documentation/core-modules/payments)**:

* Connect **Stripe** for online payments
* Or use offline payments (cash, transfer) if Stripe isn’t connected
* Add taxes and currency
* Issue refunds from **MANAGE → Orders**

*Note:* Oskar currently supports standard payments and refunds — not security deposits or pre-authorisations.

#### 6. Manage pickups and returns

Use the **[Calendar](/documentation/core-modules/calendar)** to see which units are:

* Booked
* In use
* Returned
* Available for the next booking

Use **Timeline View** for a clean overview when managing many identical units.

#### 7. Schedule maintenance

To block times for repairs, cleaning, or inspection:

* Open the resource
* Add blocked times in **Schedule & Availability**
* These blocks appear in the calendar and prevent new bookings

***

### Key Oskar Features

* Accurate unit tracking through sub-resources (no double bookings).
